OUTREACH PRODUCTIONS
Welcome to the home of Outreach Productions. Just what is Outreach Productions? Who we are and what we do is listed in our purpose listed below: Outreach Productions was founded in 1991. In April of 1994 Outreach Productions was incorporated as a non-profit corporation, 501 (c) 3.
Outreach Productions is a program that promotes creative learning through literature and is dedicated to improving the lives of minority and disadvantaged youths, with a particular emphasis on those youths living in historically impoverished areas. Outreach promotes literacy and library utilization through the development of various programs that focus on creative writing, puppetry, poetry, and computer science. Outreach believes that early literacy changes minds and lives forever, and it is our mission to effect such change in as many children and families as possible.
Outreach Productions project entitled, "Creative Learning through the Arts," is based on an established oral tradition that has been used over time to develop children’s imagination and creativity, using art forms such as storytelling, puppetry, visual aids and creative writing. However, these art forms are quickly fading away amidst all the technology available to our youth today.
Outreach Production uses the arts, specifically puppetry, storytelling and visual crafts as a fundamental part of its programming. Outreach provides a constructive learning environment during non-school hours which is instrumental as part of the support structure for youth in the community. A big part of our program is promoting reading and the use of libraries. Some children are not introduced to reading at an early age. Consequently, later, when reaching elementary school they may find books boring. They need visual aids to catch their attention to show how wonderful books can be-an incentive to visit libraries and bookstores. After seeing a puppet show or an arts& crafts presentation about books, many parents have taken their child to buy the book or check the book out at their local library. Outreach performs at community organizations, libraries, museums, churches and schools. Teachers and parents are fascinated at how the presentations hold the attention of children as young as three and four until the very last minute. Having said that we want you to spend some time and enjoy reading about our work in the community. We accomplished much with the help of our supporters. We would like to recognize the following organizations: The City of Austin, The RGK Foundation, A Glimmer of Hope, HEB, Texas Commission on the Arts, Austin Public Libraries, The George Washington Carver Museum, The Jane Morgan Co., The Still Water Foundation, Austin Parks & Recreation Centers, Austin Community Foundation, and The Silverman Foundation.
Without their support, we would have a hard time bringing our project to the community. So while you are here please visit the Librarian's Corner. There is information about the book, "The Little Cornbread Girl,' the book will go to print in October 2009, and you could be our reading partner. Below are some pictures from our friends:
